About
Hi, I'm Jason
A chartered certified accountant based in Derby — and firmly of the view that good accounting should leave you feeling calmer, not more confused.
The short version
I trained with a regional firm in the East Midlands, qualified with the ACCA in 2012, and spent a decade looking after everything from sole-trader window cleaners to a £20m manufacturing group. Along the way I noticed the same thing over and over: business owners don't want 40-page reports — they want to know they're compliant, they're not overpaying tax, and someone competent is keeping an eye on it.
So in 2019 I set up Accounts & Business Services from an office on Sadler Gate, in the shadow of Derby Cathedral. The idea is simple: fixed fees, straight answers, deadlines never missed, and advice you don't need a dictionary to understand.
Away from the desk I'm a Derby County season-ticket holder, a laboured-at-best 10k runner, and — by unanimous agreement — the worst chess player in the Cathedral Quarter Business Club.
How I work
Three promises, kept boringly well
Nothing missed
Every HMRC and Companies House deadline for every client sits in a diary with reminders in triplicate. In 15 years I have never filed late — and I plan to keep that record boring.
Nothing hidden
Fees are fixed and agreed in advance. Bills come with a plain-English breakdown. If something will cost more, you'll hear it from me before it happens, not on an invoice.
Nothing missed twice
Compliance is the floor, not the ceiling. You'll get a proper conversation about tax planning, cash flow and what's coming next — in time to actually do something about it.
Local roots
Derby, properly
My office is two minutes from Derby Cathedral and my clients are the city: the bakery on Sadler Gate, the builder in Alvaston, the design studio in the Cathedral Quarter. I visit the market most Saturdays and I know which accountants the other stallholders trust.
Clients further afield — London, Leeds, Dubai — work with me entirely online using Xero or QuickBooks. Distance hasn't lost a client yet.
Come and say hello
